Picking, Popping, and Mashing
When you have a swollen, painful pimple, it can be tempting to pop it. However, popping or squeezing a pimple won’t help the problem and can make it worse. When you squeeze a pimple, it can push bacteria deeper into the skin, which can cause breakout to last longer and cause more swelling and redness. Popping pimples can also damage the skin around the pimple, which could leave behind permanent pits or scars.

Don’t Sleep in Your Makeup
Your skin and your pores need time to breathe. Sleeping in your makeup essentially smothers your skin, pushing your makeup further into your pores. Sleeping in your makeup one time may not cause your skin to breakout but over time the pores will become clogged leading to whiteheads and blackheads on your face.

Don’t Over Exfoliate
Exfoliating can be a great way to remove dead skin cells from your face, but over exfoliating can be very hard on your skin. Exfoliating too often can damage the healthy skin on your face as well. It can cause scratches and breaks in the protective surface of the skin, allowing germs and bacteria to get in.

Don’t Use Alcohol
Alcohol is too harsh for your skin. Don’t use alcohol to “dry” up your pimples or to cleanse your skin. It will over-dry your skin and can cause it to produce more oil. Using alcohol-based products also advances the aging process. Instead, use non-alcohol-based toners to refresh your skin after exercising or a day in the sun.

Don’t Get Too Much Sun
Our faces are exposed to the sun more often than any other part of our bodies. Sun damage is the leading cause of premature aging. Simply using sunscreen can slow down the development of wrinkles and prevent dark spots and skin discoloration.

If you are struggling with any skin issues, from acne to dark spots or even dry skin, schedule a free consultation with one of our skin care experts at The Skin Care Center at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery.
