If you were not blessed with a full backside, there are many ways to get what Mother Nature didn’t give you. Procedures to improve the shape of the buttock are sometimes referred to as butt augmentations. Over the last few years, these procedures have become exceedingly more popular because of the ability to improve the shape of the body. Procedures to enhance the backside can include liposuction, fat transfers and butt implants.

People looking to enhance their buttocks typically are looking for more volume, a more appealing shape, and/or less loose skin. Many patients find that as they age, their butt starts to droop. In some cases, this can be a result of weight loss, muscle loss or collagen loss. Some patients are also looking for a fuller backside because they feel their butt is not proportionate with the rest of their body.

Depending on the reason, the method of augmentation can vary. For those with a drooping backside due to weight loss, a butt lift or lower body lift may be the best option. Some patients desire a lift as well as more fullness and may opt for a fat transfer to the area as well.

To create more fullness in the hips and buttocks, a fat transfer is typically the best option. This is sometimes called a Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL. It is the most popular method of augmenting the butt, because it offers a predictable, natural-looking, permanent result with a low risk of complications.

Fullness can be created with butt implants as well, but the use of implants in butt augmentation does have some additional risks and disadvantages. A butt augmentation surgery with butt implants typically involves a soft, solid silicone implant being placed into each side of the buttocks. An implant, like the other methods, will give a full, rounded appearance. Unfortunately, due to the location of the incision (in between the butt cheeks), there is a higher risk of infection and incision problems.

A Brazilian Butt Lift is an alternative to butt implants. This procedure has gained popularity rapidly, because of the significant advantages over a butt augmentation with butt implants. One of the biggest advantages to a Brazilian Butt Lift is that it does not involve placing a foreign object into your body. Instead, the butt augmentation is performed using your body’s own fat, which means you’re not at risk of rejecting it or having an adverse reaction. Another important factor in having a BBL over butt implants is that there is no incision scar. A Brazilian Butt Lift is performed by injecting your fat into the buttock area. The injection site is very small and leaves almost no visible mark after it’s healed. Typically, during a Brazilian butt lift your surgeon will remove fat from another part of your body, such as the abdomen, back or other areas that you desire to be slimmer. The fat is then used to create a nice, plump, more shapely backside.
