How Does Coolsculpting Work?

CoolSculpting is essentially the process of freezing fat. The process is called Cryolipolysis. CoolSculpting is the only FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment for fat deposits under the chin, on the abdomen, flanks, thighs, upper arms, under the buttocks, as well as back fat. This procedure is very safe and carefully cools the desired area to a temperature that breaks down the fat cells. This process does not harm your skin or other tissues, and it is precisely controlled only to affect the fat cells. After the treatment, your body naturally filters out the treated fat cells, creating a thinner fat layer in the treated areas.

CoolSculpting is one of the best advancements in technology for non-invasive body contouring available. CoolSculpting ensures the destruction of fat cells without damaging the surrounding tissue. CoolSculpting technology allows people to improve their body shape, creating a more fit and slim figure without undergoing any invasive procedures, without risk of side effects. Because CoolSculpting is non-surgical and non-invasive, there is no anesthesia required. The treatment is a relatively quick and comfortable procedure with no downtime. Patients can return to work and all other normal activities, including strenuous workouts, immediately after the procedure.

During your CoolSculpting procedure, you will be in a private room, seated in a comfortable chair. A small gel pad and applicator will be placed on the area to be treated. The applicator creates a strong suction as it pulls the fat tissue beneath your skin to the CoolSculpting paddles. The cells are then safely cryolsed, naturally absorbed by your body, and processed out of the body. Most treatments take about 60 to 90 minutes per area. After approximately three weeks, you will notice an improvement, which will become more apparent over the next two to four months. CoolSculpting provides about a 25% reduction in fat per treatment. Most patients do need two treatments to see the best results.

Following this procedure, there may be slight redness in the treated area, which usually subsides within a few hours. Some patients do experience mild bruising, which will disappear within a few weeks.

CoolSculpting is an effective procedure for body contouring and an alternative to liposuction. However, if surgical liposuction is the better treatment for you, we will assist you in scheduling a complimentary consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Peter Butler, Dr. Jocelyn Leveque, or Dr. Nathan Patterson. The fact that Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery offers both CoolSculpting and surgical liposuction makes our practice unique. We are able to provide both surgical and non-surgical options to give you the results you want.

If you have stubborn areas of fat that you’d like to get rid of without surgery, schedule a free consultation with one of our highly trained nurse practitioners/nurse providers at The Skin Care Center at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery.
