Just like fashion, trends in plastic surgery change over time. Some cosmetic surgeries, like breast augmentations, have held strong through the years. But with new advances in surgical technique and the changes in the “ideal” body type, new procedures have made their way onto the list. Here are the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures of 2018:
Breast Augmentation – Breast Augmentations have long been one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the United States. Although the desired size of the augmentation tends to be smaller than in the past, the number of people getting a “boob job” continues to grow. Breast augmentation is a very safe procedure when performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. The operation usually takes 1-2 hours and the patient goes home the same day.
Brazilian Butt Lift – A Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, is a newcomer to the list, but it’s growing rapidly in popularity. A Brazilian Butt Lift is the process of removing fat from other areas of the body (usually the abdomen, hips and thighs) using liposuction, treating the fat that is removed, and then injecting the fat into the buttocks to add more volume, lift and projection. After a fat transfer to the buttocks, patients need to avoid direct pressure on the backside and will need to wear a compression garment for about 4-6 weeks. About 60% of the transferred fat will survive the process. The final result is usually seen 4-6 months after surgery. The result is permanent and the transferred fat will expand or contract in response to a patient’s weight fluctuations just like fat in any other part of the body.
Liposuction – Liposuction has been around for a long time. However, liposuction techniques have improved over the years. Plastic surgeons use surgical liposuction as a way to sculpt the body, not just to remove fat. Creating pleasing contours can only be done with surgical liposuction, which should only be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon. Liposuction can be perfect to contour a variety of areas of the body, with great results. Liposuction to the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs and arms is very popular, but lipo can be performed on the neck, knee and ankle areas as well.

Whether a patient needs the upper eyelids corrected, the lower eyelids done to remove puffiness and bags, or all four lids done, eyelid surgery is quick and, in many cases, can be done in the office with a combination of oral and local sedation instead of general anesthesia.
