As we age, our face changes. Many people start to think about a facelift. However, there are other procedures, both surgical and non-surgical, that can keep you looking young and fresh (and maybe help postpone a facelift for a few years). Here are a few of the best options that have less downtime to improve the signs of facial aging.

Brow lift – A brow lift, or a forehead lift can improve the wrinkles that run horizontally across the forehead, as well as between the eyes. A brow lift can also improve the vertical lines that can occur between the brows. This will treat sagging brows that are drooping down toward the upper eyelids.

Eyelid lift/Blepharoplasty – Eyelid surgery rejuvenates the appearance of the eyes. As we age, the upper lids can sag, making a person look tired. An upper eyelid lift can be a purely cosmetic procedure or medically necessary if the eyelid is interfering with a person’s vision. (If this is the case, most insurance companies will cover the cost of the surgery.) A lower eyelid lift can help eliminate under eye bags and lessen the appearance of dark circles. Many people find that they would benefit from having both the upper and lower eyelids done. Whether a patient wants an upper blepharoplasty, a lower eyelid lift, or both, the surgery can usually be done in the office under local anesthesia.

Fat Grafting – Fat grafting is the process of taking fat from one part of the body and relocating it to another part of the body. In the face, fat grafting can be used to treat the loss of volume in the lips, under the eyes and in the cheeks. This procedure is a great way to plump the face and maintain a youthful appearance as we age.

Liquid Facelift – The careful use of injectables like Botox and facial fillers like Juvederm can turn back the clock on facial aging. Using these products in the forehead, around the eyes and mouth and even fillers in the cheeks, can have a beautiful result. This is an ideal treatment for women from around the 30’s to the 50’s.

Peri-oral Rejuvenation – This procedure improves the appearance of aging lips by performing an upper lip lift, along with other treatments. Over time the upper lip can start to droop. This laxity can obstruct the view of the teeth and the corners or the mouth can turn downward. Usually a peri-oral rejuvenation will be done in conjunction with dermal fillers or fat grafting, as well as skin resurfacing procedures like Fractional Laser to achieve the best results.

Ultherapy–Ultherapy is a state-of-the-art non-surgical treatment that the FDA has approved for use on the décolletage, neck, chin area, and brow. As the skin tissues of the region are tightened, the appearance of age and fatigue fade, replaced by a look of firmness, beauty, and youth.

If you’re experiencing facing aging, schedule a consultation with one of our award-winning plastic surgeons, Dr. Jocelyn Leveque or Dr. Peter Butler, to discuss your concerns and options.
