Sea, sand, and sun are good for the soul, but they can wreak havoc on your skin. Swimming in the ocean or the pool, lounging in the sun and maybe enjoying a cocktail or two all affect your skin’s appearance. As the summer winds down, it is to have some beauty repair work done. The Skin Care Center at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery offers various treatment options depending on which sun damage issues you are experiencing.

A HydraFacial is always an excellent option to hydrate your skin and give yourself a youthful, healthy glow. Depending on how much time you’ve spent in the sun and elements this summer, a HydraFacial may be all you need. It will slough off all those dead and damaged skin cells and infuse your skin vitamins and antioxidants.

If you notice dark spots on your skin, you may benefit from a series of Intense Pulsed Light treatments. Sunspots are light-to-dark brown spots that can vary in size and appear on many parts of the body. People will often notice them on their face, neck, chest, hands, and arms. An IPL uses pulses of light to breakdown the pigment in the spots. Within a few days of an IPL, the spots will darken and flake away.

Chemical peels are an excellent post-summer recovery option for people depending on their skin type. For those with fair colored skin, a chemical peel can rid the skin of dark spots and crepey, sundried skin. During a chemical peel, products are used on your face to encourage cell turnover. This process helps to remove the top layers of damaged skin revealing, beautiful, new skin underneath. In the week following your chemical peel, the skin will become very tight. It will then begin to peel.  The peeling process can take up to a week, depending on the strength of the peel.

Microneedling is an excellent procedure to have done many times a year, but especially at the end of the summer. Microneedling helps boost collagen production in the face, reducing the appearance of those fine lines and wrinkles caused by sun damage. It also helps reduce the size of pores and minimizes the appearance of other scars and skin damage on the face. During the microneedling procedure, micro punctures are made on the skin, inducing a healing response in the body. After the treatment, the skin will appear red for a few hours (like a mild sunburn), but there is no real downtime.

If you’ve been spending a lot of time in the sun or you’ve noticed signs of sun damage, schedule a free consultation with one of our skincare experts at The Skin Care Center at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery to see how we can help.
