A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a fantastic way to get a full, perky and shapely booty. The surgery is a two-part process.. First, liposuction is performed to obtain the fat needed increase the projection and improve the shape of the buttocks. Your plastic surgeon may consider multiple donor sites to remove excess fat, with the most typical being the abdomen, flanks/waist, back and thighs. After liposuction, the extracted fat is purified. Finally, the surgeon reinjects the fat little by little, making sure that the fat is smooth and even. It is important that fat NOT be injected into muscle, as it can result in serious complications.
A Brazilian Butt Lift is ideal for patients who are looking for a shapelier and curvier buttocks. A flat or droopy butt may be a result of genetics, weight loss, pregnancy, aging or even gravity. A Brazilian Butt Lift has to be performed with the patient’s own fat, therefore there has to be enough fat to be harvested in order to perform the procedure. Very thin women may not be a candidate for the procedure.
The Brazilian Butt Lift is performed under general anesthesia and the surgery usually lasts 3 to 4 hours. Swelling and bruising are common after surgery, but usually resolve within two weeks. Patients are fitted with compression garments to help reduce swelling in the donor sites and speed up the recovery process. After the procedure, you must wear a body garment for 6-8 weeks. You will also need to avoid sitting or laying directly on your buttocks as the compression of your body weight could damage the transplanted fat cells. Most patients return to work after about 1-2 weeks. Surprisingly, patients say the transplant area on the buttocks doesn’t have much discomfort at all, although areas where liposuction was performed might be sore for several days following surgery.
The fullness of the buttocks immediately after surgery IS NOT the final result. Only about 60-70% of the fat transferred will survive. As a rule of thumb, the results your see three months after surgery are the final result. Keep in mind, the fat cells transplanted in a BBL will increase in size if you gain weight or decrease in size if you lose weight, just like fat cells in any other part of your body.
The best thing you can do to ensure you get the best result from your Brazilian Butt Lift is to choose an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. It is also extremely important to follow the doctors orders, wear your compression garments, don’t workout until you get your doctor’s okay, and don’t put pressure on the transfer area.
