According to the American Society of Plastic Surgery, 2018 holds the record thus far for the highest number of plastic surgery procedures performed in a year, topping the previous year by more than a quarter-million. Whether it’s through diet, exercise or plastic surgery, people everywhere are trying to get that picture perfect appearance to share with their friends, family and followers. In 2019, the trends in plastic surgery are following right in 2018’s footsteps.

The most popular plastic surgery procedure in the USA and world-wide is breast augmentation. Often times a breast augmentation is combined with a breast lift to get the best looking result. Breast augmentations and implants have come a long way over the years. Today’s implants are safer, last much longer and are more natural looking than ever before.

Liposuction is second most popular surgery on the list. Surgical liposuction has seen a large spike in growth in recent years. It is the most versatile of any cosmetic procedure because it can be used to reduce fat in so many places on the body. The most common areas for liposuction are the stomach, the flanks, the back, the upper arms, thighs and the chin. Liposuction is a fairly quick procedure with limited downtime. In many cases, it can be performed comfortably in the office using local anesthesia and the recovery is fairly easy. Patients usually have a few days of swelling and bruising, as well as a few weeks of wearing a compression garment. The results are immediate and amazing. The results will continue to improve as the swelling and bruising subside.

The third most popular procedure is rhinoplasty, commonly called a “nose job”. With the nose being what everyone sees when they look at you and speak to you, it’s no wonder its close to the top of the list. Noses come in all shapes and sizes, but sometimes the size and/or shape isn’t to the owner’s liking. The goal of rhinoplasty is to provide the patient with a nose that is in proportion with the rest of the face. A cosmetic rhinoplasty can reduce the overall size of the nose, decrease the size of the bridge, correct humps or depressions on the bridge, refine a nasal tip that is bulbous, drooping, upturned or hooked or improve the symmetry and/or size of the nostrils. A nose job typically takes 2 to 3 hours and following the surgery a splint must be worn for the first 1 to 2 weeks.
