What Facial Filler Can Do

Published on February 14, 2020

Facial fillers, also called dermal fillers, can be used to repair, replenish, and enhance many area of the face. Fillers can be used to plump thin or thinning lips, to provide a non-surgical brow lift, define the cheekbones, treat under-eye hollows, significantly improve facial lines and wrinkles resulting from loss of facial volume, and leave you looking rejuvenated and years younger. Dermal fillers are so popular because they can provide amazing results with no downtime and no surgery. Injecting most facial fillers takes about an hour. While some swelling or bruising is possible, it is usually mild.

There are a variety of dermal fillers on the market. They vary in costs, uses, and the amount of time the results last. The Skin Care Center at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery has access to all fillers available in the United States. It is important to remember that all dermal fillers are temporary, with most lasting several months to two years. Finding the right dermal filler for you depends on the areas of your face you want to be treated and your desired outcome. Here are some of the crucial factors to consider when seeking out dermal fillers.

Juvéderm is one of the most widely used brands of dermal filler. There are a variety of fillers under the Juvéderm umbrella. Each one is designed to be used on different parts of the face. For example, Juvéderm Voluma XC can be used to enhance the cheeks. Over time our faces lose volume, and Voluma XC effectively plumps the cheeks giving a more youthful appearance. It can also be used to fill in laugh lines, also called the nasolabial folds (the “parentheses” lines from your nose down around your mouth). Marionette lines, which appear from the corners of the mouth down to the sides of the chin, can also be treated with Juvéderm Voluma XC. Generally speaking, the results last about a year for most patients.

Juvéderm Ultra XC and Juvéderm Volbella XC are Juvéderm products designed for plumping the lips. Both of these fillers contain hyaluronic acid fillers combined with lidocaine to numb the treatment area temporarily. This helps minimize the discomfort of the injections. Because we are always moving our months, fillers in the lips don’t last as long as they do in other parts of the face. While each patient is different, filler in the lips usually last about six months.

Juvéderm Vollure is another product in the Juvéderm family. This product provides astounding results for those with deeper, more profound lines and creases around the mouth. Vollure also contains lidocaine to reduce discomfort during the procedure. Most patients find the Vollure lasts about 18 months.
