A great deal of people aren’t too happy with the look of their thighs. Some people want to simply lose a bit of fat and excess skin from the area and others want to achieve a well-defined look that appears toned and aesthetically pleasing.

While diet and exercise can help reach these aesthetic goals, they don’t always work well on their own. Loose skin is one of the hardest things to get rid of by yourself and diet and exercise may not be enough to get you to your ideal look.

If you have done everything you can but still can’t lose the excess fat and skin around your thighs, you might want to consider undergoing a surgical procedure known as a thigh lift. When performed by a skilled plastic surgeon, this surgery can help you get the aesthetically pleasing legs you desire.

The Thigh Lift Surgery

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that is designed to remove excess skin from the thighs to greatly enhance their look. The procedure helps to remove sagging skin from the inner thigh, front and side of the thigh, and the upper part of the inner thigh.

The different types of thigh lifts are called the inner thigh lift, bilateral thigh lift, and medial thigh lift. During a consultation with your doctor, you can find out which technique is best suited for your individual needs and receive guidance on the surgical process.

Good Candidates for the Thigh Lift Surgery

Healthy adults who have lost a lot of weight but still have sagging skin on their thighs are ideal candidates for a thigh lift. You should be able to maintain a healthy weight and be free of any underlying health conditions. If you still have excess stubborn fat on your thighs, you can talk to your surgeon about having liposuction along with a thigh lift.

What to Expect During the Thigh Lift Procedure

The surgical process begins with a consultation with a plastic surgeon who you can trust. During the consultation, your doctor will explain the details of the procedure to you and what you can expect. The procedure will be performed while you are under the effects of an anesthetic. It is usually an outpatient surgery, but individual cases vary so it is best to talk to your doctor about your particular case.

During the procedure, your doctor will make incisions to gain access to the underlying tissue. The incisions will be strategically made to limit the visibility of post-surgical marks that may appear.

After the incision is made, the required amount of skin is removed and the remaining skin is sutured back in place. Deep sutures are used to prevent the skin from sagging again in the future.

Recovery From A Thigh Lift

After the surgery is completed, you can expect to be a bit groggy from the anesthesia so you will need someone to drive you home. Your doctor would have given you a set of post-surgery care instructions that you should follow carefully.

You will be required to wear a compression garment around the treatment area for a few weeks after the surgery to ensure proper healing. Give yourself time off from work for about two weeks to ensure a relaxing recovery period and optimal healing.

Your doctor would have advised you to stop smoking and drinking alcohol for about a month prior to the surgery and for a month after. Take this advice under serious consideration as smoking and alcohol will slow down the healing process.
