Having beautiful breasts is not all about size. It also has a lot to do with their shape, fullness, the position of the nipples, and much more. Some women aren’t happy with the shape of their breasts and consider undergoing plastic surgery to make improvements. One of the most popular procedures used to treat issues with breast sagging and asymmetry is a breast lift.

This procedure has become widely popular due to its ability to be customized to fit a patient’s specific needs. Before undergoing a procedure like this, however, you should know more about it.

What Is A Breast Lift?

A breast lift is a cosmetic procedure that can make your breasts more symmetrical, firm, and perky. It can also alter their shape to give them a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Since a breast lift is unique to your own contours, it can make your body look more youthful and make your favorite styles of bras and swimsuits fit better.

A great deal of women tend to undergo breast lifts for multiple reasons. The breasts may begin to develop loose saggy skin as a result of the aging process, lose their shape after pregnancy, or change after experiencing significant fluctuations in weight.

The Different Types of Breast Lift

There are different breast lift techniques that your plastic surgeon can choose from depending on your unique characteristics and your individual goals.

The crescent lift technique is used if you have to correct minimal sagging skin around the breasts. A small incision is made around the top half of the areola’s edge.

The lollipop lift technique is used if you have a moderate level of sagging and also if you need extensive reshaping of your breast. This technique is commonly used as it allows your surgeon to remove excess skin from your breast and reshape them to look more appealing with minimal post-surgical marks that can be easily hidden. It requires two incisions – one around the areola’s edge and one going from the bottom of the areola to create the shape of a lollipop.

The anchor lift technique is used if you have excessive sagging skin. This technique allows your surgeon to remove the maximum amount of skin from your breast. This technique requires your surgeon to make three incisions on your breast – one around the areola’s edge, one from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease, and one along the fold, hidden in the crease of your breasts. This technique is also used if you want a breast reduction along with a lift.

If you have decided to go for a breast lift, it is important to talk about the details of the surgery with your plastic surgeon before the procedure so that both of you are clear of your expectations and goals.

Breast lift surgeries are usually outpatient procedures done under local or general anesthesia. The surgery should be done in two to three hours and you can go home the same day. Your breasts will either be bandaged or placed inside a surgical bra after the surgery. You may experience some swelling or soreness for which your surgeon will prescribe pain medication to help you feel more comfortable.

It is recommended that you take it easy and not indulge in extreme physical activities for the first few days following your surgery. It is also advisable to sleep on your back for a few weeks until your breasts have completely healed.

You should be able to resume work and your regular routine after a week or so of your breast lift surgery. Also, your activity levels should be limited to only walking for at least six weeks after the surgery. Any other soreness and swelling should go away gradually over a period of a couple of months and most patients can start wearing underwire bras again after six to eight weeks after the surgery.

As it is an invasive procedure, it is recommended that you follow your surgeon’s post-operative care instructions carefully so that your body recovers quickly and you obtain the best results possible.
