Tattoos always seem like a great idea at the time, but sometimes you might end up with a misspelled word, a not so great result, or something that isn’t quite as cool 20 years later.  If you have a bad tattoo, you probably wish you could go back and talk yourself out of it.   Since that is not possible, laser tattoo removal is the next best option.

Tattoos have been around for thousands of years, and the desire to remove them has been too.  Earlier methods to try and remove tattoo ink from the skin, included dermabrasion, salt abrasion, acid, and CO2 lasers. These treatments proved ineffective and left the patient with scars, which were often more unsightly than the tattoo.

Fortunately, there is now a superior method of tattoo removal that is effective and DOES NOT damage the skin surrounding the tattoo.  PicoSure™ Laser is FDA-approved for tattoo and pigment removal.  This laser removes the tattoo by using short bursts of energy to break down the ink.  This laser tattoo removal treatment works on almost all tattoos, including the darker blue and green colors that cannot be removed by other lasers.

PicoSure is the world’s first picosecond laser, making it the most effective for removing tattoos. PicoSure erases unwanted ink with fewer treatments, faster recovery time, and more exceptional results.   With the PicoSure laser, ink particles are hit with tremendous pressure, shattering them into tiny dust-like particles easily absorbed and eliminated by the body.

The word laser can sound a bit harsh to some, but it is an incredibly quick and safe process. The highly concentrated pulse of energy penetrates the skin so fast that the tattoo ink is broken up without damaging the surrounding skin.   A faster laser means less damage to the skin.  Before the creation of the PicoSure laser, Q-Switched lasers were the best option for removing tattoos, but they did affect the skin surrounding the tattoo and caused scarring.  Because of the PicoSure’s speed, there is no damage to the skin and no scarring.

The full tattoo removal process typically takes somewhere between 6 and 12 laser sessions, scheduled 6-to-8 weeks apart.  The number of sessions varies based on the size of the tattoo, the color of ink, the depth of ink, and the tattoo’s age. Typically results can begin to be seen around the third laser session.

Laser tattoo removal has become very popular in recent years due to its safety and effectiveness. So if you’re suffering from an ugly or unwanted tattoo, schedule a free consultation with one of our skincare experts at The Skin Care Center at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery to see how we can help.
