Laser tattoo removal is more common than ever, and that’s because although you might have thought getting that guy’s name or that lower back tattoo was a good idea at the time, many people change their minds or have regrets afterward. Tattoo removals increased 43% from 2001 – 2012 and one in five people have a tattoo they regret. The good news is that the tattoo removal process has transformed over recent years and has become much more effective and quicker than ever before. At The Skin Care Center at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery, we use the industry’s most advanced technology in tattoo removal to make the process fast and easy. PicoSure is the world’s first picosecond laser FDA cleared for effective and safe removal of unwanted tattoos.

How It Works:
First, the skin is numbed. The PicoSure laser targets the ink that’s contained inside the skin cells, shattering it. The ink particles are forced to the outside of the cells. The body sees them as foreign objects and the immune system will eliminate them. PicoSure’s Pressurewave technology completely shatters the underlying ink into microscopic particles, without injury to the surrounding skin. Over a few treatments, more and more of the ink is broken up and filtered out of the body, causing the tattoo to get lighter and lighter.

Why PicoSure?
The great thing about the PicoSure laser is that it works faster and better to get rid of unwanted tattoos. This new laser has shorter pulses of light that are better at breaking up the ink particles. It breaks the ink up into smaller particles than lasers of the past, making it easier for the body to filter them out. PicoSure is also the best laser to treat those hard to get rid of colors. We see many patients that have previously had laser tattoo removal but they still have some of those hard to treat colors like greens and blues. With PicoSure, those dark colors are not a problem. This laser removes all of these colors in less treatments than any laser of the past.

How Many Treatments are Needed?
The number of treatments needed varies based on the tattoo. The location and size of the tattoo, as well as the colors in the tattoo, will make a difference in how many treatments are needed. Most patients require 3-6 treatments.

What Does It Cost?
The cost of tattoo removal will also vary based on the size of the tattoo. Someone with a small flower tattoo will not take as long to treat as some with a full back tattoo. At the time of your consultation, we will be able to tell you the cost per treatment and give you an estimated number of treatments needed.

If you’re ready to get rid of that unwanted tattoo, schedule a free consultation today with one of our skin care experts at the Skin Care Center at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery.
