A rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure, performed to enhance the appearance or repair the nose. During a rhinoplasty, or “nose job” the cartilages and bones of the nose are modified, and sometimes tissue is added, to improve the appearance of the nose. Cartilage and skin from other parts of the body may be used, when needed, to make the nose longer or to rebuild a nose that has been damaged. Rhinoplasty is a very common procedure performed to repair broken noses or nasal fractures. When a patient has a broken nose, the goal is to restore appearance of the nose.

At Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery, Dr. Peter Butler performs cosmetic rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty techniques for men and women vary. When it comes to rhinoplasty, it’s very much like an art form. The angle and slope of a woman’s nose is different from a man’s, and experienced plastic surgeons will be able to make sure the final outcome is great by choosing the right angles.

During your consultation, cosmetic concerns should be fully discussed with your surgeon, as well as expectations. Your surgeon will provide recommendations and discuss limitations you may have based on the structure of your nose. The surgery is typically performed at either the hospital or a surgery center. This outpatient surgery can be provided without the expense and inconvenience of an overnight stay. An anesthesiologist will be present for the procedure, to monitor vital functions during the surgery. The surgery itself only takes 1-2 hours, and recovery is mild to moderate.

Most patients are required to wear a small cast for up to 5 days. You will need transportation afterward and someone should stay with the you during the first night. Keeping your head elevated post-rhinoplasty is important to reduce swelling through the night. The easiest and most effective ways to do this and help keep recovery time on track in the first few days is by using two pillows to keep your head elevated following a rhinoplasty procedure.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common forms of cosmetic surgery and can provide great results when performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. If you or someone you know has self-confidence issues due to the appearance of their nose, schedule a consultation with Dr. Peter Butler today.
