If your neck has lost its youthful appearance and you are tired of seeing sagging skin or even a double chin, a neck lift may be the best option for you. Neck lift surgery is frequently performed on both men and women. It is often combined with other procedures, such as a facelift, eyelid lift, or facial fat grafting, to enhance the final result. Here is a list of the most commonly asked questions to help you better understand the procedure and know what to expect:

What is a neck lift?
A neck lift is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates the neck area, giving it a more youthful and attractive appearance. Neck lift surgery removes excess skin and reduces fatty deposits in the neck.

Is a neck lift part of a facelift?
Yes, a neck lift is usually part of a facelift. However, there are some case where a patient only needs their neck lifted. It is important to talk with a board-certified plastic surgeon when considering cosmetic surgery. Your surgeon will be able to recommend the best surgery to address your individual issue.

What’s the best age to get a neck lift?
Every patient is different. Some people have skin that stays firm and supple well into their 50s and 60s. However, some people experience sagging and drooping as early as their 30s. Genetics does play a big role, but so does health and lifestyle choices. No matter your age, if you have sagging skin, a double chin, or vertical bands on the neck, it can be fixed with a neck lift.

Where are the incisions?
Typically, the incisions are small and placed behind the ear, in the natural crease of the ear. With more than 20 years of experience, Drs. Leveque and Butler are skilled at placing the incisions in the most inconspicuous place possible.

How long do I have to go without exercising?
Most patients are able to start light exercise (lite walking) in about four weeks, with a return to a full exercise routine after 6 weeks.

Does a neck lift require a hospital stay?
Most neck lift procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, so they do not require a hospital stay. You are sedated during the procedure so afterward you will need to arrange for transportation. After your procedure, you will be able to return home to rest and recover.

How long will the results last?
The final results after a neck lift can make a patient look up to 10 years younger. The results should last many years but lifestyle choices and weight fluctuations can have an effect on the long-term results.

If you’re tired of looking at a sagging, droopy neck or double chin, schedule a consultation with one of our award-winning, board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Peter Butler and Dr. Jocelyn Leveque.
