With Botox being one of the world’s most sought-after injectables, it’s no surprise that a lot of patients come in with many of the same questions. Here are answers to the most common questions we get about Botox.

What Is Botox Made of?
Botox is made up of a purified protein made from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. Prior to use, this toxin is highly purified and then is administered through a series of small injections into areas of the skin that show signs of aging, such as wrinkles. These injections are highly effective at temporarily erasing or reducing horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines, crow’s feet, and other wrinkles.

Is Botox just for forehead wrinkles?
Besides treating wrinkles on the forehead, Botox can also be used to lift areas of the skin that start to sag with age, such as the corners of your mouth. It can also be used to reduce smoker’s lines, and soften rigid neckbands.

How Does Botox Work?
Botox injections deliver a purified protein that blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles where it is injected. By reducing the nerve impulses in these muscles movement is restricted, preventing wrinkles in the skin.

How Long Do Botox Treatments Take?
Botox treatments can be performed quickly, with the injection process taking only about 10 minutes. Treatment length may vary depending on the number of areas treated.

When Can I Expect to See Results?
Following your treatment, you will notice results within 24 to 48 hours. The final results may not be seen until 2 weeks after your injections.

How Long Is the Recovery Time?
One of the many advantages of Botox is its limited downtime. After your injections, there may be slight bruising but most people return to their normal activities without anyone knowing they’ve had any “work” done.

How Long Do the Effects Last?
The effects of Botox can last for four to six months. When you start to notice your lines reappearing, it’s time to get another round.
