Whether it is because of a change in lifestyle, weight gain or health concerns, some women may decide to have their breast implants, along with the capsule surrounding the implants, removed. This is sometimes called an en bloc implant removal.

What Is En Bloc Implant Removal?

En bloc implant removal is the process of removing the implant along with the entire scar capsule. This procedure is more commonly referred to as a complete capsulectomy.

Which Breast Implant Removal Procedure Is Right for You?

There are some situations in which removing the implant and the entire scar capsule is the best option. If your implant is ruptured, doing an en bloc implant removal will keep the ruptured contents inside the capsule during the procedure, keeping them from spilling out into the breast pocket. However, there is usually no medical indication to remove a normal scar capsule. That said, if a patient wants the entire capsule removed with her implants, Drs. Butler and Leveque will perform the procedure with the utmost care and precision.

What Happens When I Remove My Implants?

Many women find that their breast look deflated once their implants are removed. A breast lift can help restore a pleasing shape to the breasts. Women wanting to add volume without an implant may want to consider fat transfer to the breast. Fat transfer is done using a special liposuction technique. Fat is harvested from the abdomen, flanks or thighs. The fat is treated and then injected into the breast tissue. This adds a small to moderate amount of volume to the breast.
