Tattoos are a way for us to express ourselves or to commemorate something or someone that we hold dear. Sometimes, people get tattoos which, over time, they grow to regret having. This could be due to a number of different reasons, but whatever the case may be, tattoos aren’t easily removable because the pigmentation is permanent. With the introduction of PicoSure laser technology, however, tattoo removal treatments have evolved greatly.

PicoSure laser tattoo removal involves the use of the innovative picosecond laser for effective and safe removal of unwanted tattoos. The Pressurewave technology incorporated into the Picosure laser can completely shatter the underlying ink into microscopic particles without causing any damage to the skin.

Once broken down, the particles are small enough for your body to absorb and eliminate. This then leads to the tattoo fading away gradually, as more and more particles are destroyed by the body’s natural processes. Before undergoing the treatment, however, you will need to know more about the process to better prepare yourself.

What Is Picosure?

PicoSure provides one of the safest and fastest ways to remove an unwanted tattoo. It is an FDA-approved multi-wavelength, picosecond laser technology that uses ultra-short bursts of laser energy to remove tattoos as well as age spots, scars, and moles.

The bursts are measured in picoseconds, which is one trillionth of a second. Being a multi-wavelength technology, the range of colors it can target is broad. The 532nm can be used to treat red, orange and yellow; the 755nm can be used to target black, blue and green; and the 1064nm can be used to target very dark ink.

Picosure Treatment Regime

A PicoSure session will take around 15 minutes to complete, but this time may vary a little bit depending on the size of the treatment area. For small tattoos, you can schedule treatment sessions every four to six weeks. For larger tattoos, treatment sessions will be every six to eight weeks. The longer interval period is to allow the treated area to heal sufficiently before the next laser treatment is implemented.

Why Choose PicoSure?

PicoSure laser technology is more effective than older devices at getting rid tattoo ink. PicoSure targets ink with laser pulses 8 to 9 times quicker than older nanosecond lasers, heating the ink quickly and fragmenting it. The high speed and efficiency provided by PicoSure will lead to more visible results with fewer treatments.

In addition to having fewer treatment sessions, utilizing the PicoSure laser will greatly reduce recovery time because it breaks down pigment particles without heating the skin and causing excessive damage.

A PicoSure laser treatment is also less painful than other tattoo removal treatment methods such as Nd: YAG, a commonly used Q-switched laser. This technique goes much deeper, affecting nerve fibers and causes some patients a noticeable amount of discomfort.

PicoSure uses photo-mechanical impact rather than heat to shatter the ink into tiny particles. This uses less energy than Q-switched lasers, thus requiring fewer treatments to achieve the final results. There are also fewer complications when it comes to pigmentation and scarring. With PicoSure, an entirely black tattoo can be removed with just four to eight treatments within six to ten months, depending on the size of the tattoo.
