The aging process has a way of getting anybody down. You may feel young at heart and feel as if you have the energy of a 20-year-old, but as you age, there are physiological changes that you can’t outrun, no matter how hard you try.

One of the most prevalent among these changes is loose skin. Even with the most rigorous exercise routines that promise defined arms, the loose skin surrounding them may remain. Having loose skin in the upper arm region, commonly known as bat wings, is a common problem a great deal of people may encounter. You may look fit all over, but if you have excess loose skin in the upper arms, you’ll want to fix it. Thankfully, you can do just that with an arm lift.

Losing weight has a positive effect on your self-esteem, but strict diets and exercise routines mainly help you lose fat. They don’t affect how tight your skin is. If you lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time, you may notice that some sections of the skin did not reform well with the new contours.

Tighten those Saggy Arms with an Arm Lift Surgery

Arm lift surgery, clinically referred to as Brachioplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that reshapes the contours of the arms by tightening excess skin. Excess skin is trimmed and fat cells are removed to offer dramatically toned arms.

The surgery is generally performed in one of the two ways: the standard procedure or limited incision. When undergoing the standard Brachioplasty, a long incision is made starting at the upper region of the arm, extending down to the elbow.

The incision is made along the region which is identified as the bicipital groove. It is strategically made in a way that will keep any resulting post-surgical marks hidden from view.

On the other hand, when loose skin is predominantly present in the armpit region, the limited incision approach is used. With this technique, the incision is made in the underarm region to remove excess skin.

There is a third approach to Brachioplasty to address excessive skin on the back that results from drastic weight loss. Here, the surgeon extends the incision beyond the underarms. Post-surgical marks that remain after an extended Brachioplasty are noticeable as a line starting at the elbow and running downward along the rib cage from the underarms.

The approach chosen for the surgery is tailored to the needs of the patient, and factors such as skin elasticity and the amount of fat to be removed are taken into account as well.

Recovering from an Arm Lift Surgery

Immediately after the surgery, patients can move their arms to complete tasks that includes eating and washing the face. Patients can also comfortable write as well. Any movement that requires raising the hand over 90 degrees is strictly restricted.

You may experience some discomfort for a few days after the surgery, but this is temporary and should subside soon. If any discomfort persists, your doctor can prescribe medication to help you feel more comfortable during the recovery process. Your arms will have to be bandaged and properly taken care of in order for them to heal properly. This will ensure the best results possible.
